Antique Trader Vintage Clothing Price Guide (Kyle Husfloen)
Informative, Yet Unrealistic in the Realm of Ebay
Review by Nicole Chung, Paper Moon Vintage
Antique Trader's Vintage Clothing Price Guide as a resource for the vintage garment buyer and seller may disappoint some--especially where eBay is concerned.
The full color photographs and descriptions, which are chronologically ordered, are more than adequate and make for an interesting browse if you enjoy more technical descriptions of clothing construction; however it is the book's intended purpose, as a pricing guide, which may leave the eBay reader either bewildered or amused. The values listed for many of the garments included in the guide don't accurately represent the current eBay vintage clothing resale market--an unfortunate thing for the seller hoping to score $125 for a mostly average sixties, brocade dress on the advice of the book's editor, Madeleine Kirsh.
Speaking of Ms. Kirsh, we live only approximately 6 miles from her store, C. Madeleine's of Miami which caters not only to Suzie Q. Shopper, but also to production companies, stylists, and the like. I am truly happy for Ms. Kirsh's success as it illustrates how very possible it is for the vintage clothier to exceed mundane expectations of business achievement. Through the pricing standards she has established, she very plainly proves that her price guide is better suited for the client with deeper pockets or the retailer who has attained a more established trade.
